TangerineOne of the few songs with both lyrics and
music written by Jimmy Page, "Tangerine" is a nostalgic ballad
from 1970's largely acoustic Led Zeppelin III. It was played
frequently from the fall of 1970 until the US tour of 1972. It
reappeared once again in an electrified form at the famous Earl's Court
concerts of 1975, where Robert Plant dedicated it to the band's friends,
family and those that had been close to them "through the
lot". He also described "Tangerine" as a song about
love in its most innocent stages. This sentimental spirit would be
carried on in performances of "Ten Years Gone" in 1977, but
"Tangerine" itself would not be played again by Led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have played it frequently during their 1995
and 1998 tours, a testament to its widespread favor among even casual
fans of the band. Sound Clips Back to the Setlist page |
