Houses of the Holy       

It's a rare event for an album's title track to be held over until the next album release, but that's what happened here.  Recorded at Olympic Studios in 1972 and mixed there and at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland studio, "Houses of the Holy" was never performed live, despite the great Page improvisation evident on the studio cut.  The title is said to refer to the venues at which Led Zeppelin performed, or perhaps to the spiritual aura accompanying their concerts.  If you listen closely, you can hear Bonzo's bass drum pedal begin squeaking about 3 minutes into the studio track.
