No QuarterMany songs in our set could be said to
epitomize the power of Led Zeppelin, but perhaps no other song better encapsulates the
mystery than "No Quarter" from the 1973 album Houses of the Holy.
First rehearsed during the sessions for the fourth Led Zeppelin album in January 1971,
this eerie, otherworldly track became one of the principal showpieces and springboards for
improvisation during its performance tenure. "No Quarter" was a regular
spectacle from the American tour of 1973 until the Knebworth Festival concerts in 1979.
The name of the song was invoked on the album chronicling the 1995 reunion of Jimmy
Page and Robert Plant, where it was featured with a new acoustic arrangement. On the
1998 tour it made a controversial return to spellbind audiences in its electrified form,
played much like it was on the American tour of 1973 but without its author, John Paul
Jones. Another of The Levee's favorite Zeppelin songs, we hope to extensively
develop "No Quarter" on stage. Back to the Setlist page |
